Construction 54: Stone bench

05/03/15 | ۩ |

Just a few lines this time to show a future piece of furniture made for the main entrance.

It's a simple stone bench formed by three small blocks of slate, hand-worked with files. The pieces are then wedged in with a drop of vinyl glue.

The bench is thought to be placed against the wall between the main door and the staircase. It may be useful to the guests while they're waiting for the master of the house to go down or to be received on the upper level...
I have no pictures of the making as it took only a few minutes to be built, following a sudden inspiration.

This brainstorm, almost a mystic vision, came to me when I was just awaken and included a small vaulted recess in  the opposite wall (a sort of built-in shelf).
I push back the building of this second element till the walls grow  higher enough. For the moment I put the bench against the wall, and it's so small and lightweight that it tumbles down at every little movement...
